Meet at the Junctions

Taught by Steve Allen, PT, OCS, COMT, FAAOMPT
R E G I S T E R

Course Description:

This course will focus on the key junctions of the spine, shoulder, hip and knee with emphasis on the biomechanical assessment and treatment to restore impaired mobility and minimize risk of downstream impact of osteoarthritis and instability.   Use of thrust, non-thrust, and immediate neuromuscular techniques will be the emphasis in lab breakouts at the spinal junctions.  Downstream potential for headache, impaired reach, gait, lifting, and dynamic performance will be reviewed with practiced lab breakouts. Latest updates on assessment of the patella femoral joint will be briefly discussed and practiced.  Overview of common areas of impairment and vulnerability in the elderly will be presented with strategic interventions.  Early intervention to minimize risk of osteoarthrosis.

Course Format: Lecture/Lab

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss, review and practice IFOMT 2020 guidelines in assessment and treatment of the cervical spine.
  • Embrace and practice specific glides and traction techniques including use of thrust to the junctional- spinal motion segment.
  • Embrace the concept of immediate neuromuscular uptraining following each manual technique with PNF, eccentric muscle training, and postural retraining.
  • Examine, diagnose and intervene in areas of stress and-or limitation at the glenohumeral, hip and patella femoral joint with potential downstream impact of osteoarthrosis in the young athlete.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:

Steve Allen, PT, MS, OCS, COMT, FAAOMPT is a graduate of the University of Southern California 1977 with a MS in Physical Therapy. Internships included attending the Kaiser Vallejo Rehab Program with Margaret Knott and Greg Johnson for intense instruction in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. Steve is the founder of Evergreen Physical Therapy in Spokane and currently is seeing patients with Therapeutic Associates, Inc.- Evergreen Physical Therapy as a part time staff PT in Spokane Valley, Washington. Steve received his Board Certification in Orthopedic Physical Therapy in 1986 and is a 1996 graduate of the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy (NAIOMT) and received his Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy in 1998. He is presently also serving as a mentor in Therapeutic Associates Education and is faculty instructor with NAIOMT.

Steve served for six years in the House of Delegates, American Physical Therapy Association, and co-chair of the Manipulation Task Force, Physical Therapy Association of Washington State.

Steve is available for part–time supervised clinical residency and mentorship.

“I love the Biomechanical challenge of helping patients overcome injury and pain. The body is a complex wonder, and it takes nothing less than absolute passion and expertise to be the best clinician I can for my patients.”
