Do Less Better:
The Cervicothoracic Spine

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Utilizing the most up-to-date clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) as a framework, our course navigates the foundational knowledge and skill required to be excellent when managing cervicothoracic conditions. This course emphasizes the highest quality literature as a part of the pre-course content and the two-day in-person intensive prioritizes individualized instruction and repetitious practice leaving the learner confident when applying the content immediately afterward in their clinical setting.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Determine appropriate individuals who are likely to benefit from the use of manual therapy directed toward the cervicothoracic spine.
  • Integrate best evidence regarding safety and screening for the use of thrust and non-thrust manipulation when managing common cervicothoracic conditions.
  • Display a psychomotor skillset for safe and effective delivery of thrust and non-thrust manipulative techniques.
  • Determine and prescribe appropriate hands-on therapeutic exercise to further reinforce manual interventions in managing cervicothoracic conditions.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES

Dr. Evan Parton, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT has been a practicing physical therapist in the greater Spokane, WA area for the past several years. Following graduation, Dr. Parton pursued post-doctoral training in orthopedic and manual physical therapy, achieved his board-certification in orthopedics (OCS) and completed fellowship training through Bellin College, now holding fellow status with the American Academy of Orthopedic and Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT). Dr. Parton currently teaches in the Eastern Washington University DPT program, the Whitworth University DPT program, and is faculty for Bellin College’s OMPT Fellowship and Evidence in Motion.

Dr. Michael Clarke, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT has been a practicing physical therapist in the Meridian, ID area for the past several years. Following graduation from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, Dr. Clarke completed an orthopedic residency program through Evidence in Motion, achieved his board certification in orthopedics (OCS), and completed fellowship training through Bellin College, now holding fellow status with the American Academy of Orthopedic and Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT). Dr. Clarke is currently a clinical assistant professor and clinic director within Idaho State University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, and is faculty for Bellin College’s OMPT Fellowship Program.

MEMBER RATES:
All APTA members are eligible for discounted member rates, regardless of chapter membership. You must be a member in good standing as of the date of the conference to be eligible for all member rates. Registrants who have a membership expiration date prior to the conference must provide proof of membership before the conference begins or they will be subject to paying the nonmember rate.

CANCELLATIONS & SUBSTITUTIONS:
To cancel, email chapter staff at info@aptaidaho.org or call (800) 554-5569 x113. Cancellations received by September 30, 2022  will receive a full refund minus a $25 cancellation fee. Cancellations received between October 1 and October 16, 2022 will receive a 50% refund. There will be no refunds after October 16, 2022. Unless there is a waiting list for the course, substitutions will be accepted at no charge until October 16, 2022. All substitutions must be for the same member type and rate and are at the discretion of chapter staff. No substitutions will be accepted after October 16, 2022 or if the course has a waiting list.

COURSE CANCELLATION:
In the unlikely event that the chapter must cancel the course/conference, APTA Idaho will provide a refund of registrations fees. APTA Idaho will not be responsible for additional costs, such as travel, incurred by registrants.

CONTINUING COMPETENCY APPROVAL:
The 2022 APTA Idaho Fall Conference course is sponsored by Idaho Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. Courses of study relevant to physical therapy and sponsored or provided by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) or any of its sections or local chapters are approved by the Board of Physical Therapy. The APTA Idaho Chapter board also believes that this course is “integrally related and germane” to the practice of physical therapy  per Rule 250 in the Idaho Administrative Code governing the Physical Therapy Licensure Board (24.13.01) at the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (Idaho DOPL).

PTs and PTAs from other states who wish to attend this course must contact their licensing board to determine if the course meets the continuing competence rules and guidelines for their state and/or licensing board.
